Well, it all started with my journey on the path of Healthy eating. I still remember I had my first rendezvous with this Granola’s well-organized & settled cousin popularly known as Granola Bars some 2 years back. I always used to relish granola for my breakfast & sometimes I would even pack it up for my office. But one fine day when I opened the granola box while sitting at my desk, it got scattered all over making my desk more cluttered than ever.
I got paranoid of losing out on my healthiest breakfast for the rest of my life but then uncle Google like the last resort every time came to my rescue even then. What I found was the overflooded market; with these most handsomely packed Granolas Bars available as a “Grab n Go” option for breakfast. I got restless & immediately ordered a few of them through my daily delivery App.
The next morning seemed to be bringing new sunshine for me when I got my deliveries as early as 6.00 a.m. I quickly grabbed one bar & reached out to the wrapper to checkout at the Nutritional Value. Ohh No!!!!. The whole world around seemed gloomy & dark. A single bar contained more than 350 calories. OMG; How could it be true? Apparently, the most genuine & authentic stuff became fake in a matter of a second.
After gathering back all my senses I read at the ingredients again & realized that I should try a lean &low-fat version of that granola bar at home only. I quickly checked out how to make a granola bar at home. It was all about playing around with DRY ingredients, WET ingredients & Binders to hold the granola together.
Dry Ingredients – Oats, nuts, seeds, dried fruits
Wet Ingredients – Honey, Dates Syrup, Dates Paste, Jaggery Syrup, Maple Syrup, Agave Syrup
Binders – Almond Butter, Cashew Butter or Walnut Butter
The information on the internet was humongous but then after following a few of the recipes & tips for making granola at home I finally cracked the formula of making low fat, less sweetened & chewy granola bar at home. Sharing with you all:
- For a chewy Granola Bar, the proportion of Dry ingredients: Wet Ingredients: Binders should be: 4:1:1 so that granola bar may hold well.
- Measure all the ingredients accurately.
- Mix everything really well.
- Granolas are the best when stored in Refrigerator.
- If you don’t want to make it sweet, replace the Wet ingredients with Binders
