Barnyard millet or popularly known as Samak rice is light & easy to digest. This recipe is good for all dosha types if taken in moderation.
INGREDIENTS
- Barnyard Millet (Samak rice) – 1/4 Cup
- Yellow split (Moong dal), Soaked – 2 Tablespoons
- Cow Ghee (Clarified butter), – 1 Tablespoon
- Dates – 2-3
- Cardamom Powder – ¼ Tsp
- Ginger Powder – ¼ Tsp
- Water – 1 Cup
- Chopped Almonds 1-2 (optional)
METHOD:
- Soak moong dal for 30 to 40 minutes in a bowl of water. Remove the water.
In a pressure cooker, melt a tablespoon of ghee. & add the rinsed barnyard millet and yellow moong lentil and roast for two minutes over medium heat, stirring frequently so it doesn’t stick to the bottom.
•Add water, cardamom, and ginger powder. Adjust the porridge’s consistency to suit your needs. More water can be added for a thinner consistency.
• Cook for 10 minutes on low heat with the pressure cooker lid closed.
• After ten minutes, turn off the heat and let the pressure cooker cool for five minutes. After that, add to a bowl and mix dates paste, syrup or chopped dates. - Garnish with chopped almonds.
Dosha Tip:
Being a millet, Barnyard millet is also dry in property and light to digest. It is a healthy recipe for a person who is suffering from diabetes. It is suitable for everyone, but due to its dry quality, it may need a slight variation for Vata People. For that add more ghee.
